Canberra Art Biennial

The Canberra Art Biennial is a month-long contemporary public arts festival held every two years across Canberra, curated by Neil Hobbs. Previously known as ‘contour 556’ and confined to central Canberra, the festival expanded in 2022 to include two additional sites: the University of Canberra (contour 606) and the National Arboretum (contour 656). Each site is named for its elevation above sea level, connecting the festival’s locations both in name and purpose to Canberra’s landscape history.

The brief called for a new overarching brand to reflect the festival’s expansion. The deliverable was a refreshed branding identity featuring a modern take on the ‘contour’ theme, with each festival site as a sub-brand. This rebranding aimed to capture the essence of contemporary art and the event’s innovative spirit, appealing to a diverse audience and strengthening the festival's presence across Canberra.

From designing promotional materials and event signage to developing a compelling digital presence, I ensured that every visual element was both striking and accessible. The result was a cohesive brand experience that connected artists, audiences, and the community, enhancing the Biennial's impact and reach.
